Beside the many small islands around Mauritius (Ile aux Cerfs, Coin de Mire, Ile Ronde, Ile Ambre and many other more) there is much more to discover than sugar cane. Here is a selection of some worthfi excursions on the island
- The volcano of Trou aux Cerfs in the heart of Curepipe. You have a fantastic view over the west coast.
- The seven-colored earth of Chamarel (in the south). A really miracle of nature and definately worth seeing. On the way there the highest water falls of Mauritius (90m)
- please note: Entrance fee! – The botanical garden of Pamplemousses. One of the most beautiful botanical gardens at all. Its situated in north of Port Louis
- The crocodile park La Vanille’ in the south.
- just beside, Gris Gris, the southern (and wildest) point of the island. One of the few places without reef
- The horse race ground of Champ de Mars the center of Port Louis. It’s the second oldest course world-wide. From May to November ther is horse race each Saturday
- Domaine Les Pailles: a recreational park south of Port Louis with some first-class restaurants, colonial houses, rum distillery and a huge nature park.
- Domaine you Chasseur: a hunting ground in the southwest with an excellent restaurant.
Or try diving: “Nearly as beautifully as the Maldives”, so far the general diver’s opinion. Naturally it is a very pleasant dive into the 30 C warm water ( Mauritius Weather Infos) and meet here and there a hungry shark in one of the uncounted diving points around the island… Courses are offered all over the whole island, some diving schools have also German-speaking staff. One can make courses in PADI, CMAS or NAUI depending upon diving schools. There are also diving schools in the large hotels. Some the most beautiful diving spots around Mauritius are the wrecks of Silver Star’, Stella Maru’ and Hassan Mia’ in the north. Or cave diving into, Gunners Quoin’. Shark diving at , Shark Pit’
